Shutting Detroit Down

The other night, as I was getting ready for bed, I had the radio on and I wasn't really paying attention until this song came on. I listened to the lyrics and had to go look up the song. Maybe it's the truth in it, or maybe it's the catchy tune but either way it has become one of my favorite songs. It is about time someone stood up and told (well in this case sang) the truth. I would have done it, except I'm not yet ready to reveal my amazing vocal skills to the world....NOT! lol Enjoy!

Here are the lyrics according to Brittin. They may need corrections but this is how I sing it!

Shutting Detroit Down
My daddy taught me in this country everyone’s the same
You work hard for your dollar and you never pass the blame
When it don’t go your way
Now I see all these big shots whining on my evening news
About how they are losing billions and its up to me and you
To come running to….the rescue
Well pardon me if I don’t shed a tear
Cause they are selling make believe and we don’t buy that here

Cause in the real world they’re shutting Detroit down
While the boss man takes his bonus pay and jets on out of town
And DC’s bailing out them bankers as the farmers action ground
Ya while they’re living it up on Wall Street in the New York City town
Here in the real world they’re shutting Detroit down
Here in the real world they’re shutting Detroit down

Well my granddaddy worked hard in that plant most of his life
Now his pension plans been cut in half
And he can’t afford to die
And it’s a crying shame
Cause he ain’t the one to blame
And when I look down and see his calloused hands,
Well let me tell ya friend it gets me fighting mad

Cause in the real world they’re shutting Detroit down
While the boss man takes his bonus pay and jets on out of town
And DC’s bailing out them bankers as the farmers action ground
Ya while they’re living it up on Wall Street in the New York City town
Here in the real world they’re shutting Detroit down
Here in the real world they’re shutting Detroit down

how did someone your age get so profound. It is sad. Wish we had a better world for my kids to grow up in, but at least we have the gospel. Cause in the end that is all we need. Family and the Gospel.
